What Changed: How Nurseries in Dubai Are Operating Post Reopening

After weeks of uncertainty and closures, nurseries across Dubai are gradually reopening their doors. For families navigating this return, understanding what's different and what support is available makes all the difference.

Hands up if you’re ready to get back to normal?!

Returning to Nursery in Dubai: What's New

Whether you're only just returning to nursery after taking a break away from the country or simply spending time at home with your loved ones, one thing is certain: a few things will likely be a little different.

Nurseries and schools now have new protocols set out by KHDA to ensure that any settings currently open have comprehensive emergency protocols and planning in place. This includes shelter procedures, evacuation plans, and clear communication systems for families.

This is genuinely good news. Having these initiatives in place means that settings feel prepared and confident in their policies and procedures, while also giving parents much needed reassurance during these unpredictable times. Your chosen nursery in Dubai has done the work to meet these requirements before being approved to reopen.

Maintaining Quality When It Matters Most

Let's be honest: home learning isn't the ideal option when it comes to early years education. Children need connection with their peers and educators. They need the rich sensory experiences and social interactions that happen in group settings; that being said, they also need to be SAFE. That's the balance nurseries are now managing carefully.

Quality learning experiences and connection with teachers and peers should be at the top of every nursery and school's priority list, even amid enhanced safety measures. We cannot let fear and anxiety overshadow childhood and that is a non-negotiable principle!

Time for uninterrupted play and solid routine are more important now than ever before. Children process uncertainty through play, and they find security in predictable rhythms to their days. A quality nursery in Dubai understands this and prioritizes it, regardless of external circumstances.

How Kid's Island Has Adapted

While we cannot play in outdoor spaces for the time being, we've made the outdoors come to us! All of our beloved mud kitchens, sand exploration areas, water experimentation stations, and even our messy painting atelier have been transplanted directly into our indoor classrooms.

We still have our usual classroom play spaces and indoor playrooms, just with new happy additions that bring that sensory richness indoors. The experience children love hasn't disappeared; it's simply moved location temporarily.

We're also offering daily payment options with 2 hour or 5 hour time slots to choose from. This ensures that parents have genuine flexibility and viable options that work for their current circumstances, whether that's managing work commitments, easing children back gradually, or simply maintaining connection without full time commitment.

Like every other approved setting, we've completed our safety training protocols and made sure that our entire staff team is confident and up to date with new policies and procedures. This wasn't a checkbox exercise; it was thorough preparation to keep your children safe.

Flexibility for Uncertain Times

The practical reality is that many families need different options right now. Some parents are working from home and want partial nursery days. Others need full coverage but can only commit week by week given the uncertainty. Some children need a gentle, gradual return after time away.

Flexibility in scheduling and payment isn't just a nice feature at nurseries in Dubai right now; it's essential. The ability to book by the day or week rather than committing to entire terms gives families breathing room to make decisions as circumstances evolve.

This also acknowledges the financial pressure many families are under. Not everyone can pay full term fees upfront when the future feels unclear. Quality nurseries understand this and are adapting accordingly.

Looking Ahead with Hope and Preparation

The region's climate remains uncertain. That's simply the reality we're all living with right now, and pretending otherwise doesn't serve anyone.

But small steps like going back to nursery and school are positive, hopeful steps forward. They're statements that childhood continues, that learning matters, that community connections are worth maintaining even when things feel fragile.

At Kid's Island, we remain deeply committed to the safety of all our children and their families. We feel our duty now more than ever is to maintain our role as the guardians of childhood. Children deserve spaces where they can still be children, where play happens, where curiosity leads, where friendships grow.

We're prepared for whatever comes next while holding space for joy, exploration, and the ordinary magic of early childhood. Because that's what children need from us, regardless of what's happening in the wider world.

We are in this together, and we're here for your family every step of the wa!
