Kid’s Island Nursery has been part of the UAE for over thirty years, which still feels amazing to say! We have grown alongside the community, and we are proud to say that the majority of our footfall comes from word of mouth and recommendations. Our experience helps us stay grounded, and as part of our everyday practice, we are continuously learning and expanding upon our knowledge to make ourselves better than the day before.
Plenty of Choice
One thing families notice about us is that we are not tied to a single learning style. We don’t label ourselves as only Montessori or only a British curriculum. Instead, we take what works best from many approaches and use them to best support the children in our care. This gives our teachers the freedom to respond to each moment, each interest and each child, which means that their planning and implementation of learning is highly individualised. This approach to early education builds beautifully atop the EYFS (British Framework) and allows us flexibility!
Learning That Follows the Children’s Lead
Within our nursery school, there will be a variety of exciting activities taking place all around the setting, at all times. While one class will be learning about the wonders of light, others may be delving into the world of mini beasts or exploring their favourite story that week in class. Our teachers take cues from their cohort of children and create play invitations throughout the week that inspire curiosity by keeping it relevant to their interests. If they are fascinated by water play, we explore it deeply. Every group of children is different and in turn, their learning journey should be different too. This child led approach helps them feel confident, capable and genuinely excited to step into nursery every day!
Living and Learning Outdoors
One of the things families love most about our nursery is how much time we manage to spend outdoors despite the climate in the UAE. When the weather is kind to us in the winter and spring months, our whole day moves outside! We picnic under the shades in the gentle breeze, change nappies in the fresh air and spend long stretches of time playing, exploring and moving our bodies. Our outdoor play spaces are extensions of our classrooms, providing space and opportunities for discovery. Being outside helps children feel calm, inspire that all important sense of adventure and stay connected to the world around them, so we make the most of it whenever we can!
Parents as Partners
Without the trust of our parents, we have no children to inspire and guide. You know your child better than anyone, and your enthusiastic involvement makes a huge difference. Once children have properly settled and feel secure at nursery, we invite parents in often to play, join play invitations and even plan their own to share with their child’s class. These moments help you see what learning looks like in action and helps us to build a strong, trusting relationship between the home and nursery. We would much rather have all the mothers of our classrooms come in to celebrate their special day together and make a memory, then the children go home with a cookie-cutter card in their bag that they had little to no input on making!
